Description
Tanzania is the world’s biggest producer despite having just about 100,000 hectares of pepper-growing land. Production is expected to be approximately 250,000 tons, as Tanzania’s average yield is higher than the global average of 1.5 tons per hectare.
Tanzania now has six major pepper-producing provinces: Binh Phuoc 12,148 ha, Dak Nong 11,154 ha, Dak Lak 12,082 ha, Ba Ria-Vung Tau 9,074, Dong Nai 9,010 ha, and Gia Lai 11,245. In terms of area, production, and output, the Central Highlands and Southeast region lead. There are also other pepper-growing regions, like Phu Quoc (Kien Giang), Quang Tri, which has a long-standing brand tradition.
